November 9th – Thursday, and eleventh – Saturday in Shanghai:

Dennis and I still left at midnight from LA on Asiana Airways – on a fourteen hour flight via Seoul, Korea — Incheon Airport – and on to Shanghai – Pu Dong Airport. With a 3 hour layover in Seoul -we 1st got a glimpse of the Asian culture, and walked the long corridor of the Responsibility Free of charge Stores and stopped in the Wendy Café for latte and tea. When we landed in Shanghai – Mr. Gao Mim met us – with a sign that Ai informed me to see – with massive letters saying “Dennis and Joan, Welcome to Shanghai”. Delightful to have Mr. Go – who performs for Kobayashi San – and Lilly, who is Chinese – meet up with us and spirit us absent. Our baggage went by car to the lodge – and Dennis, Lilly and I rode the Maglev from the airport to the west aspect of Shanghai – a prepare that value 9 billions to develop by the Chinese Federal government and flew to a maximum of 424 Kilometers more than the 7 moment ride. They stated that it would just take forty five minutes by car – with the targeted traffic in the City – to cross from the river and reach our lodge. An Australian sat throughout from us – and we marveled at the whiz of the teach – and the instantaneous zip of a teach passing in the other direction. Off the teach and into a taxi to the hotel, the Ramada located in the western aspect, Pu Xi – the previous element – in between the People’s Sq. and the Bund – the waterfront at the Huangpu River. The four of us appreciated a late lunch in the restaurant, Nan Xinya, on the fourth flooring of the hotel – with the spherical serving in the middle of the desk crammed with Cantonese flavors – which includes a fried fish with a red sauce – tasty. Dennis and I napped – and went for a lengthy walk down the Nanjing Rd – the pedestrian street powering the lodge – to the Bund – and liked the array of colorful lights down the street and on the waterfront – and the blue boat that sailed across our look at. It was a stunning night time – and the long stroll again took us to the People’s Sq. – when we understood that we would long gone as well significantly and retraced our steps. We slept like babies on the firm mattress with the coverlet – and have been welcomed to China.

November twelfth – Sunday in Shanghai:

We woke to a misty sky – and prepared to meet Lilly at 9AM – and 1st liked breakfast in the hotel. Lilly took us in the morning to Town God Temple Bazaar – and the Yu Yard. The Garden was the property of Mr. Pan, constructed in 1559, in the Ming Dynasty. Yard in China consists of the trees, plants, rock and properties – and is the property the place nature is brought in to be seasoned in the living. We walked the route and by means of the Chinese buildings – all around the swimming pools – by way of the gateways – and enjoyed the elegance of the progress, the a lot of turning paths, the round entry approaches – the rocks from the bottom of the Taihu Lake (one particular of the five greatest clean h2o lakes) with a lot of fascinating shapes from the erosion of the water – piled higher – and sometimes with a “tower of joy” in the clouds (on the rocks) and Beautiful Jade Stone. Five dragon walls, dragons with three fingers (for regular men and women) – a pearl in the dragons mouth – and a single with a frog in a sympiotic partnership – and tails that ripple the partitions foremost down the paths. All around the corner, we exited the Garden into the a lot of shops – and entered the Silk Factory – to see how the silk operate spins by itself in silk thread inside of its cocoon – and is cooked and placed in water so that with a brush the ladies can stir the cocoons and locate the silk threads. Then 6 or eight threads are spun together to make the lovely silk thread – and we observed the bedding and clothing that are traditionally made from the fantastic silks of China. Earlier, before getting into the Yard – we spotted the Nan Xiang Dumpling Cafe with a lengthy line, and Lilly advised us about the yummy crab and pork dumplings. Following some buying in the division shop – and looking at pearl, jade and precious stones in jewelry – we attempted the dumplings, with a little bit of ginger inside of – and they had been delicious. We returned to acquire a silk blanket and go over in the Silk Manufacturing unit – and they even had “California king”. We hurried by taxi to return to the lodge – since Kobayashi San and Gao San ended up ready for us for some lunch.

The organization van – Fukuoka Knit Firm, Kobayashi San’s business – took us throughout town – sights of the streets of the Metropolis, the tall condominium properties, the theater and business office buildings for this City of sixteen million people. We traveled to the Hong District, close to the Embassies, such as the Japanese Embassy. The cafe was Chizhen in Hong Qiao – and we dined in a little place – and were surprised by the array of foodstuff on the round glass serving piece in the center of the table – and like the shark fin soup (expensive and a delicacy in China). We transformed the plans for the afternoon – great modify – and from the resort walked up the Nan Jing to Shu Ya Liang Zi – a conventional Chinese massage – on the eighth ground – and all 5 of us sat in the place each in our personal reclining chair – with sizzling drinking water at our feet – and then the foot therapeutic massage, deeply baring into our toes – and ear cleaning, much to our shock. We were nicely rested and massaged and returned to the resort, happily – and Dennis and I stopped in Yong An – the office shop – and I loved getting “hair toys” to hold my hair in location – and the girl who confirmed me how to do this. Lilly taught us to say “Bu Ya Xie Xie” (no many thanks) to all the sellers who were striving to promote us fakes, watches and purses. And also, Bu Xie (thank you). And “Ni Hao” (Mandarin for Howdy). That evening we dressed and went to the Ritz Carlton to the Acrobat Demonstrate and to the Grape’s Yard on Xinle Rd. for dinner – and had our 1st style of the Chinese delicacy of “river crab”. Dennis and I essential some lessons on how to take in this, and that the part in the middle is deemed the greatest. It is all intriguing and a exceptional experience to be so generously hosted by men and women who know Shanghai and it daily life, and an addition to my Rotary GSE expertise in Japan with numerous close friends there.
